The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests Launched the ECO-Turism Program

On November 7, the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP) launched the ECO-Turism program, with a funding of 20 million RON. This program, taking place for the first time in Romania, will finance works for the development and promotion of eco-tourism destinations, such as the creation of non-motorized access infrastructure or the establishment of tourist information and environmental protection points.
Representatives of the Ministry of Environment specified that the budget allocated through the Environment Fund Administration (AFM) is 20 million RON, and the maximum funding for a single project can reach 900,000 RON.
Through this program, funding can be provided for works to create non-motorized access infrastructure, such as thematic paths, bridges for cycling, horseback riding, kayaking-canoeing, adventure trails, via ferrata (mountain routes equipped with cables, ladders, and metal bridges), as well as related infrastructure (bicycle racks, shelters and feeding areas for horses, piers, alpine refuges, etc.) and the creation of tourist information and environmental protection points/refuges, cave development, visitor centers, and the creation or restoration of hiking trails.
The program can be accessed by administrative-territorial units, including their administrative-territorial subdivisions, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, economic operators, museums, institutions within the national research-development system, and accredited higher education institutions.
These entities can submit projects that are associated with or include a protected area in Romania.
According to the Minister of Environment, ECO-Turism is a program designed to complement the National Strategy for the development of ecoturism in Romania, developed by the National Authority for Tourism (ANT).
