Moldova’s Tourism Sector Shows Steady Post-Pandemic Recovery

The number of tourists and excursionists who utilized the services of travel agencies and tour operators in the Republic of Moldova increased by 22.1% in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. In total, over 173,400 tourists and excursionists were registered, of whom 39,000 traveled within the country. Revenues for travel agencies and tour operators grew by 38.2%, reaching 297.7 million EUR.

The increase in the number of tourists and tourism receipts is a positive sign of the recovery of the tourism industry in the Republic of Moldova following the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Outbound and domestic tourism held the largest shares of the total number of tourists and excursionists, at 68% and 22.5%, respectively. Inbound tourism represented 9.5%.
