Eurostat Report: 76% of Romanians do not go on vacation, the highest percentage in the EU

About 76% of Romanians do not go on vacation, the highest percentage in the European Union, according to a Eurostat report based on 2016 data.
The percentage only considers individuals over the age of 15 and exclusively includes trips for personal reasons, not those for professional, medical, or other similar reasons.
After Romania, the highest percentages of those who did not go on vacation in 2016 are in Portugal – 74.4% and Bulgaria – 70.2%.
Over 55% of Romanians who say they did not go on vacation cite financial reasons. About 13% of Romanians say they could not travel for professional reasons or because of a form of education they are attending, a percentage approximately equal to that of Romanians who did not travel due to health conditions.
At the same time, almost 9% of Romanians state they did not go on vacation for family reasons, and about 5% say they did not feel motivated to travel.
By comparison, 62% of Europeans traveled at least once for personal reasons in 2016. Furthermore, almost a third of the EU population traveled abroad for tourism purposes during the mentioned period.
