Orbis Group acquires Royal Hotel in Bucharest for over 11 million EUR

The Orbis hotel group has acquired the former Royal Hotel in the Unirii area of Bucharest for 11.35 million EUR. The hotel has been operating since the end of 2017, following a renovation process, under the Mercure brand, which is part of the international hotel group Accor’s brand portfolio.
The Royal Hotel was affiliated with the Mercure brand last summer, being the second unit with this name in Bucharest. Royal thus entered the AccorHotels network, one of the largest hotel networks in the world, with over 4,500 hotels totaling more than 500,000 rooms and 17 brands worldwide.
Mercure Bucharest Unirii has 97 rooms and suites, as previously stated by Frank Reul, Area General Manager of Accor for Romania, Macedonia, and Bulgaria, before the hotel’s affiliation with the international brand.
The contract initially signed with Mercure was a management agreement, meaning the hotel chain has provided the hotel’s management since its reopening.
At this moment, there are 3 operational Mercure hotels in Romania: Mercure Bucharest City Centre, Mercure Sighisoara Binderbubi Hotel & SPA, and Mercure Bucharest Unirii. In the future, however, the chain aims to reach a network of 8-10 Mercure hotels both in Bucharest and in other key cities in Romania, such as Brasov, Sibiu, Timisoara, and Cluj-Napoca.
