CFM completes key stage of rail connection with Romania at Fălciu

Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM) has finalized an important stage of the infrastructure project for the Prut 2 – Fălciu railway connection, completing the connection of the broad gauge railway to the bridge located on Romanian territory, near the Fălciu station. The project is considered a strategic step for strengthening Moldova’s export routes to the European Union market and integration into the European logistics network.

In the completed phase, CFM teams installed more than 3,000 sleepers, equivalent to about 2 kilometers of track. At the same time, work is continuing on the implementation of the European gauge connection, which will allow the direct integration of the Republic of Moldova into the EU railway network. The rehabilitation covers the entire Cantemir – Fălciu segment, with a length of about 4 km, and includes the modernization of the railway bridge and the Prut 2 and Fălciu border stations. According to the CFM, the resumption of rail traffic on this section will facilitate the movement of trains, increase the safety of freight transportation and diversify transit routes for Moldovan products.
