The digital mineral water map – BalneoMap, created at the initiative of the Transylvania Regional Balneotouristic Cluster and supported by the Department for Sustainable Development within the Romanian Government, was presented in Miercurea-Ciuc following its launch late last year in Covasna County.
The “BalneoMap Digital Mineral Water Map” identifies over 200 mineral water springs—most of which remain untapped—across Harghita, Covasna, and Mureș counties, as well as 36 localities with exceptional balneotherapy potential.
Vajda Lajos, the initiator of the Transylvania Regional Balneotouristic Cluster, highlighted the immense potential within the Center Region (Harghita, Covasna, Mureș, Sibiu, and Brașov counties), arguing that these areas should be granted a special status.
The President of the Harghita County Council discussed the significance of balneotherapy and the necessity of legislative reforms in this field to drive the development of family and health tourism.
Furthermore, there are plans to establish a balneotherapy department within the Miercurea Ciuc Emergency County Hospital to provide specialized treatment services.
