Tourist Promotion Plaques Replaced with QR-Enabled Signage

The Ministry of Tourism has announced that traditional tourist promotion plaques are being replaced with new ones containing QR codes. Through these, tourists can access information about landmarks, history, or local legends.

This is a digitalization project by the “Călător prin România” (Traveler through Romania) Association, through which tourists can become their own guides to better understand what our country has to offer.

Each plaque is accompanied by the national tourism brand “Explore the Carpathian Garden.” This action is the result of a 3-year protocol concluded between the Ministry and the “Călător prin România” Association.

Foreign tourists have the possibility, by using the application, to read the provided information in over 32 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, German, and Arabic.

In this way, tourist objectives and historical monuments will be properly signaled using modern technology, while also offering the possibility to create a database containing the entire cultural capital of our country.

According to the collaboration protocol, the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT) grants the “Călător prin România” Association the free right to use the trademarks “România explorați Grădina Carpaților” and “Romania explore the Carpathian garden” to promote Romania as a tourist destination, for advertising purposes, and to reproduce them at events held domestically and abroad, online, as well as within other mutually agreed actions.
