Timisoara Free Tours organizes a free guided tour dedicated to the traditions and history of the Serbian community in Banat

The Alternative Tourism Association, through the Timișoara Free Tours project, organizes on Sunday, January 25, a new guided walking tour dedicated to one of the most influential historical communities of Banat: the Serbian community. The event, entitled “Serbs in Banat – customs and traditions”, is part of the sixth season of the series “Tourists in your own home” and aims to promote cultural diversity and local history, offering free access to the interested public, without the need for prior reservation.

The tour will take place from 12:00-14:00, starting from the Union Square, in front of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese. The route includes an exploration of the Serbian quarter and some of the central streets, where guides will present information about the role of this community in the urban, administrative and commercial development of the region, especially after the great migration of 1690. The event is organized on the eve of the feast of Saint Sava, the spiritual patron saint of the Serbs, and will focus on the significance of this day as well as other key moments in the traditional calendar, such as Slava, Christmas or Easter, and the rituals specific to the major stages of life. The Timișoara Free Tours project, launched in 2021 as a volunteer-based initiative, has facilitated hundreds of tours for thousands of tourists and locals in its years of activity, promoting sustainable tourism.
