The Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT) has announced Romania’s participation with a national stand at the FITUR Madrid International Tourism Fair, which will take place from 21-25 January 2026 at the IFEMA exhibition complex. The event is considered to be one of the most important events of its kind worldwide, and the presence of the Romanian delegation is aimed at strengthening the country’s image as a competitive tourist destination on a foreign market considered a priority.
According to data provided by the ministry, the Spanish market is consistently among the top ten countries sending tourists to Romania. The strategic decision to participate is based on the increase in the number of Spanish visitors in recent years, supported by high air accessibility. MEDAT officials point out that the interest of Spanish tourists is mainly focused on cultural tours, nature tourism, rural tourism and city break packages, segments where Romania has a significant development potential. The national stand will be set up to highlight the diversity and authenticity of the tourism offer, highlighting the local natural and cultural heritage.
The action is part of the national marketing and promotion programs, aiming to maintain Romania’s visibility in front of thousands of professionals from the global tourism industry, representatives of the authorities and the media. Irineu Darău, Minister of Tourism, emphasized that participation in FITUR Madrid 2026 is an essential step to ensure constant and consistent promotion, despite an economic context that requires careful management of resources. The Minister pointed out that the necessary efforts have been made not to miss this fair, considered a crucial opportunity for attracting foreign tourists and supporting the sustainable development of Romanian tourism.
