Progress on Magistrala 6: TBM “Sfânta Maria” broke through the wall at Băneasa Station, and the structure of Băneasa Airport station reaches 79%

Metrorex confirms the progress of the works on Metro Line 6, announcing that the drilling machine (TBM) “Sfânta Maria” has arrived at Băneasa Station, where it has pierced the station wall. According to company representatives, the execution of the resistance structure for the South Section, between 1 Mai and Tokyo stations, is on schedule, with the project continuing at the pace of work on both tunnel strands.

Mariana Miclăuș, Director General of Metrorex, underlined the importance of the moment, stating, “We start 2026 marking another relevant stage in the realization of the Magistrale 6 metro line”, the two machines’ route being according to plan. On the section delimited by the stations Tokyo, Aeroport Băneasa and Băneasa Station, 2,006 meters of tunnel have been excavated so far and approximately 1,334 concrete rings have been installed, using the 600-ton drill shield. The second machine, the TBM “Sfânta Ana”, has already traveled about 1.6 kilometers underground, heading to the same station to complete the tunnel on Line 2, after Line 1 was previously executed. Comparative data at the end of November indicated a steady progress, with TBM “St. Mary” at that time having excavated 1,730 meters and “St. Anne” 1,227 meters.

In terms of the physical stage of works at the stations on the southern segment, the most advanced interventions are recorded at the Băneasa Airport station, where the resistance structure is 79% complete. Here about 52,000 cubic meters have been excavated, more than 9,300 cubic meters of concrete have been poured and all the piles for accesses A and B have been completed. At Băneasa station, the structure is 69% complete, with 143 piles out of a total of 194 and a volume of concrete poured of about 7,000 cubic meters. At the future Tokyo station, 61% of the structure has been completed, with excavations exceeding 50,000 cubic meters, while at Montreal Square, the structural works are at 66%.
