More than a hundred guests, including officials, bloggers, profile journalists, and representatives of the HoReCa sector, wine shop representatives, and retail networks participated at the end of June in an event organized by the “Valul lui Traian” Association, in partnership with the National Office of Vine and Wine and the Sommelier Guild of Moldova.
Under the theme “Valul lui Traian. Wine and Passion,” the event was dedicated to promoting wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) from the “Valul lui Traian” Delimited Geographical Region.
This was the first event of its kind organized by the association, marking an important step in the strategy for the development and promotion of wines from this renowned viticultural area.
Additionally, representatives of 14 wine companies were present, offering their highest quality wines for tasting.
Guests were offered more than 50 wines with Valul lui Traian PGI for tasting, each possessing a distinct character, while also sharing common nuances characteristic of the region.
Present at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, delivered a message of encouragement, appreciation, and support for PGI wine producers in the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing the importance of state support for the development of winemaking in the Valul lui Traian region.
In the Republic of Moldova, we declaratively have around 125 thousand hectares; we produced and sold a value of approximately 200 million EUR. Thus, it is an extraordinary efficiency. And all these things are reflected in the income of companies from the Republic of Moldova, stated Vladimir Bolea.
Valul lui Traian PGI is the viticultural region delimited for the production of wine with protected geographical indication (PGI), located in the south of the Republic of Moldova, which has distinguished itself over time with specific environmental features that lead to obtaining wines with a striking and particular typicity for this region. The Valul lui Traian viticultural region comprises three sub-regions with specific soil and climate characteristics: the Bugeac Plain, the Tigheci Hills, and the Prut Terraces, and extends its horizon over an area of 43,203 hectares. The territory of the region falls within the East European and Mediterranean natural zone of the silvosteppe with downy oak and the xerophytic steppe with fescue-feather grass, beard grass, and Austrian wormwood.
The Valul lui Traian region includes seven districts: Leova, Cantemir, Cahul, Comrat, Ceadâr-Lunga, Taraclia, and Vulcănești.
