Matca Transylvanian Sanctuary, a boutique hotel located in Șimon, Brașov County, aims to affiliate with the international Relais & Châteaux network, which brings together around 580 hotels and restaurants operated by independent entrepreneurs, most often family businesses.
The Matca hotel opened its doors at the beginning of this year, being an investment by the Căluianu family, with businesses in several fields, such as installations and beekeeping. The value of the investment amounts to EUR 7.4 million.
The property operates as an independent boutique hotel with views of the Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains.
Only one other hotel in Romania is currently affiliated with this international brand, namely the Epoque hotel in Bucharest.
For this year, the hotel owners also aim to expand the accommodation capacity by building five more private villas. Matca Transylvania Sanctuary consists of two buildings, with eight rooms each, plus two private villas.
In addition to the accommodation spaces, the hotel has an events center of about 140 sqm, a restaurant with a capacity of 90 seats, a bar, a terrace, and a spa center.
The expansion of the hotel was a decision made after the owners evaluated the demand for accommodation services at Matca.
Initially, the owners had three hectares of land, and now, relying on seven hectares, they intend to complete five more private villas this year.
Since the hotel’s opening and until now, there has been demand from both leisure tourists and companies looking for uniqueness for organizing events or team buildings. Thus, Matca has already hosted seven corporate events.
During the week, the hotel is occupied by clients organizing corporate events, and on weekends, tourists come to relax. The property has an occupancy rate of 80%.
