One of the most impressive mansions in the Oltenia region, known as the Romano Mansion, has been listed for sale at a price of EUR 2,050,000. Over the years, the property has served as a camp for pioneers and a school for children with disabilities.
The Romano Mansion in Pleșoiu was built between 1920 and 1925 according to the plans of architect Grigore Cerchez. The mansion has a tumultuous history stretching back to the time of Tudor Vladimirescu and even to Russia, from where it derives its name.
Nationalized in 1949, the mansion was reclaimed by the heirs of the Romano family in 1998, since when it has undergone a series of renovations and arrangements. The mansion itself is spectacularly decorated, with Grigore Cerchez’s Neo-Romanian style leaving a significant mark: the high gazebo with massive decorations, the round turret framing the opposite corner, the decorations below the cornice, the monumental columns at the main entrance, and the trilobed arches on the main facade are just a few of the elements that catch the eye from the start.
The mansion itself, the main building, has a footprint of 313 sqm and a total developed area of 429 sqm, but there are two additional livable buildings on the property: a secondary house from the mansion’s era with a total area of 128 sqm, and a more recent construction with a total area of 339 sqm.
The entrance gate is a monument in itself, with two impressive turrets that make entering the property resemble the entrance to an old fortress or a cathedral.
The estate itself is much vaster, totaling 8.57 hectares and including many other elements of great interest: a 1-hectare fish pond, a large swimming pool of over 400 sqm, a former ice house, several annex buildings, and a building with a footprint of over 300 sqm that can be transformed into usable space according to the needs of the future owners.
The Romano Mansion can be transformed into a tourist attraction, hotel, or event center.
