The mini-holiday of Saint Mary’s Day brings the busiest weekend of the 2025 season on the Romanian coast, with over 155,000 tourists officially accommodated and tens of thousands of others in unauthorized structures, according to the RESTO Constanta Employers Association.
Corina Martin, president of RESTO, underlined that the phenomenon of illegal accommodation and illicit trade on the beaches affects authorized operators and called for urgent intervention by the authorities. The employers support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan’s campaign against untaxed tourism and call for concrete action from the control institutions.
The most sought-after resorts in legal accommodation structures are Mamaia, Neptun-Olimp and Venus, but the areas with the highest degree of undeclared tourism remain Eforie, Mamaia Nord, Vama Veche and Costinești.
RESTO has requested the convening of a Command at the Prefecture of Constanta to coordinate control actions, but so far has not received a response. The employers warn that, in the absence of additional tax collection from untaxed tourism, the Government could increase VAT in tourism from October, a measure that would penalize fair operators.
