Chisinau government prepares new measures to develop tourism

Prime Minister Dorin Recean met with representatives of tourism organizations to discuss the opportunities and challenges of tourism in Moldova. The Head of the Executive stressed that the sector is strategic for the national economy and should be capitalized especially in the context of the European path.

The government aims to boost investment in tourism by modernizing the road infrastructure serving tourist routes, supporting local development and providing grants for the restoration of historical monuments and the development of natural ones. It also targets niche segments such as medical tourism.

At the institutional level, the authorities plan to develop the National Tourism Strategy, update the LEADER program for rural areas, launch the Digital Tourism Register, create the National Tourism Fund and introduce holiday vouchers to stimulate domestic consumption.

“We have something to be proud of – traditions, wines, gastronomy, quality services and welcoming people. We must continue to promote Moldova as a competitive destination,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
