The Suceava County Council has received the modernization works on DJ 209B Văleni – Stânișoara – Iesle – Neamt, known as Talienilor Road. The investment, of 112 million RON including VAT, was financed by PNDL, the contract was signed in January 2022, with a 60-month works guarantee.
The 14.6 km section links Suceava and Neamt counties, from Malini to Borca, and crosses a mountainous area with spectacular scenery. At Stânișoara Pass, an entrance gate, a parking lot and a lookout point are to be built.
The road has a history of over 100 years: built between 1902-1914, on the orders of King Charles I, by Italian craftsmen (“Talieni”), it was originally used for military and commercial purposes. During the Second World War, it was the scene of heavy fighting and later inspired Mihail Sadoveanu’s work, being included in the “Baltag Road”.
President of Suceava CJ, Gheorghe Șoldan, emphasized that the project means more than road modernization: it is an opportunity for tourism and economic development of the area.
