Study: Half of Romanians to Vacation Domestically This Year

50% of Romanian survey respondents say they intend to spend their upcoming vacation within the country in the context of Covid-19. Among the preferred destinations for Romanians are Brașov, Constanța, and Cluj-Napoca.

At the same time, 35% of respondents have not yet planned their days off for this year, and only 15% wish to spend their leave abroad. 7% will not have a vacation or will spend it at home.

According to a market study conducted by the Hospitality Culture Institute, 53% of Romanians who travel more often domestically than abroad record average household incomes of less than 4,000 RON. 33% of these are employees, 29% are experts/specialized in certain fields, and 29% are currently not working (unemployment or parental leave).

Among Romanians who prefer vacations in domestic destinations, 33% go on a city break twice a year, and 30% go once every 2-3 months. Additionally, 40% of the Romanian tourists interviewed now allocate between 501 and 1,000 RON per person for a city break in a local destination, while 34% budget less than 500 RON per person.

64% of the surveyed Romanians travel for vacation by personal car, and 13% by train. 31% of local tourists traveling in Romania prefer to stay in informal locations (with a host), and 45% choose to pay for accommodation only.
