Romanian hotel industry representatives have submitted a list of demands to the government to support this sector

On March 25, some of the most important investors in the Romanian hotel industry met for discussions regarding the economic strategy during and after the pandemic. Their efforts resulted in a manifesto sent to government officials under the letterhead of the Federation of the Hotel Industry in Romania (FIHR).

Specifically, the requested measures are:

  • Consistent reduction of local taxes on hotel assets between 2021-2025, in the event of operation without major restrictions;
  • Cancellation of local taxes of any kind and other fees owed to associations during quarantine periods or periods of capacity restrictions, limited schedules, or activity bans;
  • Cancellation – reduction of salary taxes for hotel employees during the 2021-2025 period;
  • Granting fiscal incentives for new investments in the field made between 2021-2025;
  • The state must honor its promises and grant financial compensation;
  • Urgent adoption by Romania of the digital travel certificate principles (the green certificate);
  • Promotion of Romanian destinations through the urgent legislation of Destination Management Organizations;
  • Re-evaluation of the specific tax for hotel activity so that it also represents support for those making investments;
  • Redefining the holiday voucher system starting from 2022;
  • Extension of the interest support system during the 2021-2023 period.

The manifesto is signed by 59 hotel industry investors and is addressed to Florin Cîțu – Prime Minister of Romania, Alina Dragu – President of the Romanian Senate, Ludovic Orban – President of the Chamber of Deputies, Dan Barna – Deputy Prime Minister, Hunor Kelemen – Deputy Prime Minister, Claudiu Năsui – Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Raluca Turcan – Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexandru Nazare – Minister of Finance, Attila Cseke – Minister of Development, Vlad Voiculescu – Minister of Health, Lucian Bode – Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Drulă – Minister of Transport, Raed Arafat – CNSU President, and Paul Ene – State Secretary at MEAT.
