Romania to Have Another Biosphere Reserve

UNESCO has given its approval for the Iron Gates National Park to receive the status of a biosphere reserve. Thus, Romania will have another biosphere reserve after the Danube Delta.
All the steps were taken by a Geography professor, assisted by her students, so the authorities only have to complete a simple formality for things to become official.
The Iron Gates Natural Park covers an area of over 120,000 hectares, being the second largest in Romania. More than 200 species of birds live here, most of them water birds, of which 133 have the status of strictly protected species. In total, in the protected area, there are over five thousand species of animals, some dangerous to humans.
