Paris Region Lost 1.5 Million Tourists in 2016 Due to Attacks

The Paris region lost 1.5 million tourists in 2016 as a result of the attacks, with the largest decreases recorded in the number of Chinese and Japanese tourists, the Regional Tourism Committee (CRT) announced.
 
Financial losses caused by the reduction in the number of tourists in the Paris region last year are estimated at EUR 1.3 billion, according to the CRT’s annual report.
The number of tourists in the Ile-de-France region was nearly 31 million last year, 4.7% lower than in 2015. The number of foreign tourists decreased by 8.8%, and that of French tourists by 0.8%. In terms of the total number of hotel nights in the Paris region, the decrease was 7.2%.
The impact of the Paris attacks was also felt by the main tourist attractions – the Arc de Triomphe recorded a 24% decrease in visitors, the Louvre Museum 13.3%, the Palace of Versailles 9.8% and Disneyland 9.5%.
