Ocna Sugatag in Maramureș County could be certified as a tourist resort of national interest, according to a draft Decision published by the Ministry of Economy, which also aims to certify 13 other localities as tourist resorts of local interest. Thus, Romania will have a total of 52 tourist resorts of national interest and 87 tourist resorts of local interest.

The project proposes the approval of the certification, as tourist resorts of national or local interest, of the following localities or parts of localities:

1. national interest: Ocna Sugatag, Maramureș County;

2. local interest: Anina, Caraș-Severin County; Borș, Bihor County; Cavnic, Maramureș County; Dorna Arini, Suceava County; Ghioroc, Arad County; Gura Siriului, Buzău County; Sadova, Suceava County; Săcele, Brașov County; Sânnicolau Mare, Timiș County; Sighetu Marmației, Maramureș County; Ștei, Bihor County; Tulucești, Galați County; Vatra Moldoviței, Suceava County.

Tourism investors can access European structural funding for the construction of tourist reception structures.
