Ahead of World Oceans Day, Novotel celebrates the first year of its three-year partnership with WWF and reaffirms its commitment to protecting the oceans by launching two important policies: the Sustainable Seafood Principles and the global Plant-Forward initiative. The new rules require the removal of more than 350 threatened seafood species from the menu, support responsible fishing and the exclusive use of certified or locally sourced products. At the same time, all 600 Novotel hotels will include at least 25% plant-based dishes by 2026, promoting a healthier and more sustainable diet.
In addition to these measures, Novotel is launching educational games created with WWF to inspire children to become ambassadors for marine conservation. Families staying at the hotels will be able to access “Guardians of the Mediterranean” and “Sea Turtle”, interactive activities that explain the challenges facing marine life in an engaging way.
Commitment to reducing environmental impact includes eliminating single-use plastic, installing reusable dispensers and pilot projects with microplastic filters. Novotel is also taking concrete conservation actions, such as supporting the Indian Squid FIP project in India, increasing seafood traceability through partnerships with Seafood Souq and working with regional suppliers for sustainable supply chains.
Staff training is another key area, with a new global marine awareness program, seafood sustainability courses and trainings developed in partnership with AXA Climate and WWF.
By supporting WWF’s research and conservation projects, Novotel is actively contributing to the protection of Posidonia in the Mediterranean Sea, the identification and removal of ghost nets, the promotion of the Blue Panda educational boat and the monitoring of sea turtles through the Blue Corridors initiative. In the West Atlantic, the company supports projects that combat illegal fishing and involve local communities in the conservation of vulnerable species.
For Novotel, protecting the oceans means protecting the future of humanity, and every step towards sustainability is part of a deep commitment to nature, health and future generations.
