New Rules for Terraces and Bars in the Capital’s Old Town
The Mayor of the Capital, Sorin Oprescu, has imposed new rules regarding the operating conditions for bars and terraces in Bucharest’s Old Town. Consequently, on April 7th, the implementation norms for a General Council Decision were approved, under which terraces in the Historic Center will no longer be allowed to have televisions, plasma screens, or video projectors.
In order to operate, each terrace must have an authorization from the General Directorate of Urban Development.
In the Historic Center, the use of plastic planters and artificial decorative plants, the construction of platforms and the use of plastic carpets, as well as the use of folding terrace furniture and plastic furniture, will be prohibited.
On seasonal terraces, electronic equipment such as plasma, LCD, or LED TVs and video projectors are prohibited, including their power supply.
Furthermore, within the perimeter of the Bucharest Historic Center, the outdoor preparation of any food products is prohibited, with the exception of stands set up for short-term cultural events.
On seasonal terraces, the organization of private festive events, such as weddings or baptisms, is prohibited, and organized live music and shows must end at 10:00 PM.
The norms establish the basic rules for restaurant activities on seasonal terraces located in protected areas and the Bucharest Historic Center between March 15 and November 15 of each year.
The provisions of these norms apply to both public property and seasonal terraces set up on private land owned by individuals or legal entities.
On streets without sidewalks, the placement of seasonal terraces is authorized only in compliance with legal provisions, provided that a continuous free circulation zone with a minimum width of 4 meters is maintained in the middle of the street for emergency interventions.
