Law on Granting Holiday Vouchers Promulgated by President

On June 29, President Klaus Iohannis promulgated the Law on granting holiday vouchers, which provides that employees, from both the public and private sectors, receive holiday vouchers, up to a limit of 6 average salaries, which can only be used in Romanian tourism.
The law was adopted on June 3 by the Chamber of Deputies, with 303 votes “for” and 12 abstentions, after receiving the senators’ vote on March 12.
On one hand, employees in the private sector can benefit from holiday vouchers or holiday bonuses, which the employer grants following negotiations, while in the public sector, following an adopted amendment, they will only benefit from holiday vouchers and not from cash or holiday bonuses.
Additionally, the system for issuing holiday vouchers on electronic media is introduced. Vouchers printed on electronic media, as well as those on paper, will be used only in tourist units authorized by the National Authority for Tourism.
This holiday voucher system maintains the tax facilities offered to employers; they are deductible and exempt from the payment of social contributions and salary taxes.
