Joint Working Group of Tourism Experts from Romania and the Republic of Moldova

Romania and the Republic of Moldova have established a joint working group of tourism experts to implement bilateral projects in the field, as well as to transfer know-how regarding best practice models implemented in each country.

The constitutive meeting of the joint working group took place on Thursday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture in Chișinău, prior to the official opening of the Republic of Moldova’s profile fair – Tourism & Travel Expo, where Romania is present with a national pavilion.

The establishment of the working group is based on the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova, approved by Government Decision (HG) no. 422/2019 and agreed upon by the parties for the purpose of developing close cooperation between official tourism bodies. One of the objectives of the act consists of increasing tourist exchanges and mutual promotion, including through the exchange of advertising materials and information.

The agenda of the bilateral consultations thus refers to undertaking coherent and coordinated measures to capitalize on cultural, spa, and religious tourism, the detailed presentation of legislation and regulations specific to the field, as well as the implementation of investment projects of common interest. At the same time, it was agreed to establish a calendar of events that will be organized to promote the cultural heritage of the two countries.

The working group consists of appointed members of the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism, experts in profile legislation, the development of cultural tourism routes, Destination Management Organizations, marketing, as well as experts in tourism investment. They were joined by counterparts from across the Prut, from the Ministry of Culture, which also manages the tourism portfolio.

The establishment of the working group also represents a first stage prior to the organization of the Romania – Republic of Moldova joint intergovernmental commission for economic collaboration, as specified by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MAT).
