Brasov International Airport – Ghimbav RA has launched a public tender for the expansion of the airport infrastructure, the estimated value of the contract amounting to approximately EUR 9.6 million (49 million lei). The investment is motivated by the need to accommodate growing air traffic, both civil and military, as well as requests from air operators for expanded parking and operating facilities.
The contract put out to tender in SEAP includes design services, technical assistance and execution of works for the extension of the boarding/landing platform with five new positions (four category C and one category E). The project also includes the construction of a fast track (BRAVO – TWY B taxiway), storm drainage works, extension of the lighting and beaconing network, installation of CCTV systems and relocation of electrical and fiber optic networks. The deadline for submission of bids is March 16, 2026.
This stage of development has been anticipated by airport and Brasov County Council officials as early as 2025, in response to commercial pressure from airlines wishing to establish operational bases in Brasov. The new infrastructure will allow the simultaneous management of several aircraft, reinforcing the strategic and commercial role of the airport inaugurated in June 2023, which aims to become a regional hub for central Romania.
