The tourist project Ice Hotel at Bâlea Lac has been canceled this year due to unfavorable weather conditions. The unusually high temperatures for this time of the year do not allow the structure to be built safely, according to an official announcement published on the project website.
Located in the Făgăraș Mountains and accessible exclusively by cable car, the hotel was rebuilt each winter from blocks of ice extracted from the frozen lake Bâlea. The whole complex, which included igloo-style accommodation, a restaurant and a church, was handmade by local craftsmen and had a different theme for each edition. The official press release justifies the decision by the fact that “due to bad weather, this year the Ice Hotel cannot be built in optimal and safe conditions”.
