ANT: There are over 2,600 licensed travel agencies in Romania

Currently, there are 2,601 licensed travel agencies in Romania, according to data from the National Authority for Tourism (ANT), after withdrawing 1,080 licenses in the field over the past year.

Additionally, another 162 licenses or license annexes were struck off last year at the request of companies in the sector.

ANT also published, in the “Tourism Authorization” section, the list of classified tourist accommodation structures, those whose classification certificate was withdrawn, the list of classified restaurants, certified tourist resorts, approved ski slopes, as well as the list of guides holding a tourism guide certificate.

Every travel agency is required to conclude an insurance policy against insolvency or bankruptcy and provide proof of its existence. The policies cover damages of $10,000 for retail travel agencies and $50,000 for tour operators.

Tourism employer associations want to establish a private tourism guarantee fund by 2018, from which tourists will be compensated if a travel agency becomes insolvent or bankrupt.
