Hotel Carol I in Baile Herculane is for sale for EUR 1.2 million

Hotel Carol I in the Baile Herculane resort, formerly known as Hotel Traian, has been put up for sale by its owners for the sum of EUR 1.2 million. The owners specify in the announcement that the hotel has 74 rooms and is currently undergoing renovation.

The hotel was built in 1869 by Emperor Franz Joseph in Baile Herculane and was named Rudolf, after Franz Joseph’s only son, and later received the name Traian. After the First World War, the hotel was ceded to Romania and was named Hotel Carol.

The hotel was used until its closure in 2005 due to degradation. The current owner began renovation work as early as 2011, and whoever buys the building will have to continue the renovation work.

In the autumn of 2016, the Local Council of Baile Herculane decided not to exercise its right of pre-emption and purchase the property, given that it is listed as a heritage building.
