The President of the National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania (ANAT), Dumitru Luca, claims that the prospects for domestic tourism are not favorable at all, and Romania is not doing great in terms of incoming tourism.
2020 was a delicate year for tourism from all points of view, and even if the first signs of recovery have appeared, domestic tourism is still far from its potential and the level of previous years, stated Dumitru Luca, president of ANAT.
He also claims that Romania is not doing as great on the incoming tourism side, where this year the level was close to zero.
All groups, all tourists from different countries who had previously booked, who usually fueled incoming tourism, were canceled.
In his opinion, incoming tourism is an export of services, it brings in foreign currency, and is an element that should balance Romania’s balance of payments.
Regarding expectations for the winter season in the domestic tourism area, especially in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the head of ANAT mentioned that the prospects are not encouraging at all, because there are still restrictions regarding indoor events, but also on the spa tourism side, which is still paralyzed.
He states that on the incoming side, there is no way to restart it anytime soon, while on the outgoing side, travel conditions are often expensive or unacceptable.
