The Director of Baia Mare International Airport, Dorin Buda, stated that the rehabilitation works on the airport’s runway will be completed by the end of this year.
He specified that the tender for the runway extension works and other related constructions is to be organized in at least two weeks, given that the Romanian Aeronautical Authority has favorably approved the investment documentation.
Upon completion, the runway will have a length of 2,150 m and a width of 45 m, specific for the takeoff and landing of medium-haul aircraft.
The investment amounts to 9 million EUR and was approved through a Government memorandum; however, the investment was delayed by the redo of a new feasibility study requested by the Romanian Aeronautical Authority.
In parallel with the runway extension, the terminal and the departure-arrival terminals will also be modernized.
The construction works will not affect domestic and international flights operated from Baia Mare Airport.
