Last week, in Sovata, at the Danubius Health Spa Resort Hotel, the 11th edition of the Romanian Spa Tourism Exchange and Forum took place. Over 150 representatives of spa hotels and treatment centers in Romania participated in the event.
During the Tourism Forum proceedings, the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT) and the Employer’s Organization of Spa Tourism in Romania (OPTBR) announced that for this year, spa tourism is estimated to record a turnover of approximately EUR 350 million.
Lucia Morariu, Vice President of ANAT, stated that in the first half of this year, the number of tourists who visited spa resorts increased by 30% compared to the same period in 2014, when 246,000 tourists were recorded in the resorts.
According to the ANT, in the first six months of 2014, 1,169,789 overnight stays were recorded in Romania’s treatment centers, while in the same period of 2015, 1,306,447 overnight stays were recorded, an increase of 11.7% compared to 2014.
