Romania ranks 13th in the global top of the largest wine producers, according to preliminary data recently published by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
In total, over 250 wineries are registered in Romania, but only 140 of them produce and sell bottled wine, and of these, approximately a quarter can support wine tourism.
Alina Iancu, founder of CrameRomania.ro and ReVino.ro, stated that the number of wineries in Romania is constantly growing by 5 – 10 units/year.
She specified that our country currently ranks 5th at the European level in terms of the area of over 200,000 ha of cultivated vines and 6th in the European Union from the perspective of production.
In Romania, wine tourism is experiencing significant development, aided by investments made by wineries and customer demand for this type of personalized and experience-oriented travel.
Wineries can be visited throughout the year, but the most attractive landscapes are between April and October.
For a tourist, a weekend with wine tastings, meals, and accommodation costs about 100 EUR, plus transport costs.
