On March 2nd, the President of the Maramures County Council, Gabriel Zetea, stated that Baia Mare International Airport will most likely be reopened to domestic and international air traffic in July of this year.
The investment of approximately 11 million EUR includes extending the runway by about 300 m with a width of 45 m. The runway extension will allow medium-haul passenger and cargo aircraft to land in Baia Mare and depart for other destinations from there.
The President of the Maramures County Council also specified that, in parallel, negotiations will be held with several low-cost companies intending to operate at the Baia Mare airport.
