The Romanian Government approved on August 21, 2025 the transformation of Tuzla Airport into an international border crossing and customs point for people and goods. The airport will be subordinated to the Customs Border Office Constanța Sud, and the Border Police, Customs Authority, DSP Constanța, as well as agricultural and food safety structures will provide the necessary control staff.
The decision comes after Regional Air Services SRL, the airport’s administrator, applied for this certification back in 2013, given the need for air transportation for rigs and drilling vessels in the Black Sea. The company will bear the costs for the premises and utilities for the control authorities.
The measure has a strategic impact:
- Enables safe operation of aircraft serving offshore projects, including Neptun Deep;
- It stimulates the development of aviation and logistics activities in the region;
- Contribute to local economic growth.
Regional Air Services, founded in 1998 by Adrian Vasilache and Dorin Ivascu (through Regional Air Suport SRL), reported in 2024 a turnover of RON 55.5 million, net profit of RON 642 thousand and debts of RON 47.4 million, with 128 employees.
Tuzla Airport covers 36 ha and includes two grassed runways, four heliports, hangar, administrative buildings, simulators and fuel storage.
