The number of last-minute bookings doubled this summer season compared to the same period last year, while the average rate for a three-night accommodation package for two people this summer season decreased by approximately 21% compared to 2019, announced the hotel booking platform Travelminit.ro.
“Amidst the pandemic, the summer season started a month late this year, but the Travelminit.ro platform managed to exceed last year’s booking volume. Holiday vouchers and cards were among the main methods of purchasing vacations that contributed to the restart of domestic tourism. Additionally, a trend of tourists booking with caution was observed. Approximately 60% of them preferred last-minute vacations this year, booked even less than 48 hours before the start of the holiday, contrary to trends in previous years when bookings were made early to take advantage of early booking offers,” company representatives announced in a statement.
The company also announces a significant increase in the number of last-minute bookings with free cancellation during this year’s summer season.
According to Travelminit.ro statistics, the number of bookings made 1, 2, or 14 days before check-in doubled in the 2020 summer season compared to last year. At the same time, 75% of customers chose bookings without a deposit or with free cancellation during the July-August 2020 period, a 10% increase compared to the same interval last year.
Romanians’ preferred holiday destinations this summer were the seaside, the Danube Delta, and mountain areas.
Searches and bookings on Travelminit.ro increased by approximately 50% in the 2020 summer season compared to the same period last year, with 3.1 million visitors recorded on the platform in August, 55% more than last year.
This growth is explained by travel restrictions, and this year many tourists turned to domestic tourism.
Also, on average, the price of a stay for 2 people in the 2020 summer season decreased by 21% compared to the same period last year.
