Transilvania Gastronomica – Food Culture Festival

Between September 4th and 20th, the first edition of the food culture festival for southern Transylvania, organized by the My Transylvania association, will take place in Sibiu.
The purpose of the festival is to discover and understand local gastronomy through culinary events, but also to invite the interested public and industry specialists to participate in creating a regional gastronomic identity. The festival is an action co-financed by the Sibiu Local Council and the Sibiu City Hall.

During the culinary events, we will explore the gastronomic culture of various ethnic communities in Sibiu (Neighborhood Cooking), the rural regions of Sibiu County (Rural County Brunch), the neighboring regions of Transylvania (Five Regions Picnic), and historical regions located further away (Taste of Romania). Each community or region involved will have representatives knowledgeable in characteristic culinary traditions, who will tell us about the areas they come from.
Also, throughout the festival, we invite you to enjoy traditional dishes at ten Sibiu restaurants that have joined our festival (Sibiu City Menu). We will also have a live cooking session with the chefs of the involved restaurants (New Transylvanian Cuisine) and a brunch with seasonal products – tomatoes, eggplants, and cheese (Gourmet Brunch).

Events for specialists include presentations of gastronomic routes (Sibiu Cheese Road, Prahova Wine Road, Saxon Greenway – Cultural Foodscapes and Foodways), local producers (Meet the Local Producers), success stories in local gastronomy (Follow Your Taste), discussions on the importance of feedback (Feedback Gastronomy), a conference on the development of gastronomic culture in southern Transylvania, and an awards gala for the best local initiatives in the field.
