The HORETIM employers’ organization points out that Timișoara is the only city in Romania that does not have a 5-star hotel, even though in 2023, the city will be the European Capital of Culture.
The president of the HORETIM employers’ organization, Corina Macri, sent an open letter to Mayor Dominic Fritz expressing her dissatisfaction with the fact that this sector is not supported by local authorities.
She sent the letter to manifest her discontent regarding the municipality’s intention to triple the taxation on non-residential buildings, although, she claims, Timișoara already has the highest local taxes and duties in the country.
Due to ill-intentioned people, Timișoara is the only major city in Romania that does not have a five-star hotel, does not have and does not stimulate local production and businesses, favoring only multinationals that do not pay income taxes to the local budget, Corina Macri further states in the open letter.

Following the open letter launched by HORETIM president Corina Macri to the local administration, in which she mentions that Timișoara does not have a 5-star hotel, RHN was informed that this statement is not true.
The Tresor Le Palais hotel complex has been accredited since 2019 by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in the 5-star category. Therefore, Timișoara can boast a single 5-star hotel built with private capital by a local businessman from Timișoara.
“We consider Ms. Corina Macri’s mention regarding this subject to be defamatory, being completely devoid of truth. We would have liked her to rectify this statement or at least specify exactly in what context she made this reference,” say the representatives of the hotel complex.
