The project for the first space hotel belongs to the space construction company Orbital Assembly.
It plans to open Pioneer Station in 2025 with 28 seats, and Voyager Station, which would have a capacity of 400 seats and is expected to operate from 2027.
The concept, which would be placed in orbit and comprise around 20 modules similar to villas connected by tube-shaped elevators, was first discussed three years ago.
The two space stations for tourists will be shaped like a wheel orbiting the Earth, ensuring gravity inside. They will include accommodation for tourists and offices or research facilities that can be rented by space agencies.
In the short term, Orbital Assembly’s objectives can be achieved depending on funding.
The interiors of the space hotel will be similar to those of hotels on Earth. Voyager Station will feature a spa, restaurants, fitness rooms, concert halls, a cinema, and relaxation areas with exceptional views of our planet.
This concept was inspired by the drawings of aerospace engineer Wernher von Braun, who had contact with rocket technology in both Germany and the USA.
Thus, the space hotel was originally to be named Von Braun Station.
According to Orbital Assembly, the purpose of the space hotel is to create a dream space for tourists, but also a space business hub with offices, unlike the International Space Station (ISS), which is considered a place of work and research and which already received its first space tourist more than 10 years ago.
Regarding gravity, the Chief Operating Officer of Orbital Assembly specified that artificial gravity will exist for spaces where people eat and drink while seated, as well as in the shower area, but in the rest of the spaces, space-specific conditions will be found, providing the opportunity for a new way of having fun.
