Consiliul Județean Constanța has signed the financing contract for the construction of a new aquarium, with the project officially entering the implementation phase. The total value of the investment is EUR 21.94 million, including VAT, with funding provided through the South-East Regional Program 2021-2027. The new facility is designed to become the largest aquarium in the Balkans.
The project already has a building permit and will be located on Mamaia Boulevard in Constanța, covering an area of nearly 7,500 square meters between the Planetarium and the Dolphinarium. The building will have four levels (basement + ground floor + 2 upper floors) and will feature large tanks dedicated to the Black Sea and the World Ocean, underwater tunnels for visitors, a penguin habitat, as well as thematic exhibitions.
In addition to the tourism component, the complex will be equipped with a conference hall, a library, a cafe, and spaces for educational and research activities. The execution duration of the works is 24 months, and the final implementation deadline for the entire project is scheduled for December 2029. The President of the Constanța County Council, Florin Mitroi, stated that the investment will become a landmark for tourism, education, and research in the region.
