The construction of a new taxiway for aircraft at Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest is completed

The Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) announced that on Thursday, April 17, new modernization works have been received, provided for in the third phase of the Henri Coandă Airport’s movement surface systematization project.

In this phase a new aircraft taxiway is being built, one aircraft apron is being modernized and another taxiway is being rehabilitated/modernized.

The investment covered works on several objectives and is part of CNAB’s strategy to increase the operational capacity of Henri Coandă Airport and optimize aircraft operating conditions, CNAB representatives say.

The first phase was completed in July 2024 and included work on the five taxiways associated with Runway 08L-26L takeoff/landing.

The second phase was accepted in December 2024 and concerned expansion works on Platform 2, creating 9 new parking positions for code C aircraft such as Airbus A320 and Boeing B737. These positions can also be used to park 3 E code aircraft such as Boeing B777, Airbus A330 and 3 other C code aircraft.

Work was also carried out on one of the aircraft taxiways and two roads were upgraded to ensure fast access for handling equipment to the aircraft on the airport aprons.

Work has also been carried out on the rainwater catchment systems on the moving surfaces, as well as on the beaconing system. The new beaconing and lighting systems with LED sources are made with technologies that ensure reduced energy consumption.
