The Ivan Patzaichin Festival will bring this year, between September 6-10, to Tulcea County, a national conference of local gastronomy points (PGL), during which a new concept will be launched, along with debates, film screenings, dishes prepared according to traditional recipes, rowing competitions in canotcas, as well as concerts and workshops for children.
The event will traditionally conclude with the ‘United Waters of Romania’ caravan, on the Tulcea-Mila 23 route, where the first digital center destined for the children of the Delta will be inaugurated.
The national PGL conference within the festival will take place under the patronage of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO, and during this event, the Ivan Patzaichin-Mila 23 Association will launch the concept of “custodian of local tradition” for local gastronomy points.
Ivan Patzaichin spent years trying to convince authorities of the need to debureaucratize the accreditation procedures for local gastronomy points and to establish slow tourism routes in the delta dedicated to non-motorized boats, while Mayor Ştefan Ilie emphasized that gastronomic points have revolutionized the tourism area.
The festival will bring crews to Ciuperca Lake to compete in canotcas as part of the “Discover Rowmania” national competition, with concerts performed by Nicu Alifantis & Zan, Krypton, Taylor, Eyedrops, Melting Dice, Zsud and the Anton Pann ensemble taking place on the Ivan Patzaichin waterfront.
The ‘United Waters of Romania’ caravan will depart Sunday, September 8, from Tulcea towards Mila 23, marking the first time participants can legally stay overnight on this slow tourism route, after the Scientific Council of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration granted its authorization this spring.
The festival is organized by the Ivan Patzaichin – Mila 23 Association and financially supported by the Tulcea City Hall and the Tulcea County Council.
