Tarom suspends flights to Dubai, Nice, Geneva, and Amman

National airline Tarom is suspending direct flights to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Nice (France), Geneva (Switzerland), and Amman (Jordan) in the 2016-2017 winter schedule, both for economic reasons and as a result of the withdrawal from service of the two Airbus A310 aircraft.
“The operation of these routes could be resumed in the 2017 summer season. Currently, the process of acquiring two new aircraft with a capacity of 160-190 seats is underway, which will enter service in the summer season,” stated an informed source.
In 2015, the company spent approximately 47 million RON on aircraft maintenance and repairs, according to the company’s 2015 report published on its website.
The average load factor of Tarom aircraft was approximately 68% last year.
For the first half of this year, Tarom reported losses of 28.6 million RON, eight times higher than the level provided for in the revenue and expenditure budget.
2016 will be the ninth consecutive year of losses for Tarom, which last had a profit in 2007.
