Tarom: 9% Decrease in Domestic Flight Revenue in 2016

National airline Tarom transported only 1% more passengers in 2016 compared to 2015, and the company collected less than 1 billion RON from scheduled flights, a 5% decrease compared to 2015, according to data from Tarom’s financial report. One of the reasons cited by the company is the withdrawal of the A310 models from the fleet.
Tarom’s 2016 revenue from passenger transport on domestic flights decreased by approximately 9% in one year. Compared to the revenue recorded in 2014, the decrease is 10%. Last year, Tarom generated revenue from scheduled domestic flights of 149 million RON, compared to 163 million RON in 2015. 
While in the first quarter of 2016, the total number of passengers embarked and disembarked on scheduled and non-scheduled domestic flights at Romanian airports was 319,233, this number doubled in the same period of this year.
In 2016, the load factor of Tarom aircraft was 67.71%, a decrease from the 68.3% achieved in 2015. 
While in 2015 the company paid 606 USD per ton of fuel, last year the price was 490.83 USD per ton, and in total, Tarom spent 54 million EUR on fuel.
