Summa to invest EUR 40 million in a complex with two Marriott hotels and a medical clinic in Chisinau

The Summa Group, one of the leading strategic investors in the Republic of Moldova, has announced a new multifunctional project worth EUR 40 million, which will integrate two Marriott International hotel brands and a medical hub. The project is part of a wider investment plan of around EUR 300 million, scheduled for 2025-2028, which will double the total value of the company’s portfolio in the country to more than EUR 600 million and will target sectors such as real estate, healthcare and renewable energy.

The new complex, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028, will include Moxy Hotels and Residence Inn by Marriott hotels, along with the Medpark City Clinic. According to Atilla Șancı, Summa’s regional director in Moldova, the project marks a shift from isolated developments to integrated ecosystems. Moxy Hotels will target the youth segment with a modern design and socializing spaces, while Residence Inn by Marriott will offer self-catering apartments for extended stays. The medical component, Medpark City Clinic, will be structurally integrated with Medpark International Hospital and will offer advanced diagnostic services, personalized medicine and wellness programs, including targeting the medical tourism market. The development will generate around 300 new jobs.

The announcement comes against a backdrop of accelerated growth for the country’s hospitality industry, which in 2025 recorded its strongest pace in 20 years. In the first nine months of the year, the number of tourists accommodated grew by 9.6% and overnight stays by 4.9%. The new hotels will fill a gap in the mid-scale and upscale segments, in a market where a large part of the hotel stock is considered obsolete.

Present in the Republic of Moldova since 1996, Summa has invested over EUR 300 million until 2024 in six strategic sectors. The company has been a pioneer in attracting international hotel brands, opening Radisson Blu Leogrand Hotel in 2015 and Courtyard by Marriott in 2019. Its portfolio of landmark projects includes the Chisinau International Airport (2000), Shopping MallDova (2008), Medpark International Hospital (2010 and 2023), the modernization of the M2 Chisinau-Soroca route (2014) and the Chisinau Arena complex (2020). The company currently employs over 1,250 people.

Summa’s future plans include diversifying its investment portfolio. The company is planning a new shopping center, an investment of EUR 250 million scheduled for 2028, the expansion of Medpark Hospital with an Oncology Diagnostic Center, the construction of a 20 MW photovoltaic power plant and the development of an agro-tourism project under the concept “Wine Hotel & Country Club”.
