Local authorities in Sinaia are requesting additional gendarme patrols and seeking support from the 21st Mountain Hunters Battalion to ensure compliance with health protection and physical distancing measures at cable transport facilities and on the slopes.
Simultaneously, the Sinaia Local Council is preparing a resolution that would authorize law enforcement to fine individuals who fail to comply with the operating rules of the ski area.
These measures are being implemented following the opening of the ski season and in the context of overcrowding on the mountain, where some tourists have ignored distancing rules.
The decisions were made after dozens of tourists formed queues on the first day of the season, waiting up to 40 minutes for gondolas and chairlifts, with many ignoring distancing requirements and some failing to wear protective masks.
Local authorities have also made other decisions to prevent overcrowding. Thus, starting December 21, 2020, vehicle traffic will be opened on Drumul Cotei, and a one-way road segment will be created from the intersection of Drum Nou Cota 1400 and Calea Codrului (near Hotel Ioana) to Cabana Schiori.
“Furthermore, all cable operators will be required to ensure the delimitation of traffic lanes by installing fences and barriers, and to broadcast audio messages every 15 minutes reminding the public of the mandatory nature of the imposed measures: distancing and masks,” local authorities further informed.
