Simion Giurca Joins Timisoara 2021 – European Capital of Culture Team

Simion Giurca, the former head of Romania’s tourism promotion office in Vienna, has been co-opted into the Timisoara 2021 – European Capital of Culture team, where he will be responsible for the tourism strategy, collaboration with all entities in the hospitality industry, and the development of projects and programs to increase the number of tourists. 
Recently, Giurca started his own business and opened his own tourism company, through which he aims to bring foreign tourists to Romania.
Simion Giurca received the National Order “Goldene Verdienstzeichen der Republik Osterreich,” being at that time the first head of a country’s tourism promotion office decorated by the Austrian state. In 2014, Giurca received the title of honorary citizen of the capital of Austria, a distinction awarded by Michael Häupl, the mayor of Vienna. Three years later, Simion Giurca resigned from the Ministry of Tourism after the relevant minister, Mircea Dobre, abolished the external tourism offices.
The Timisoara European Capital of Culture Association is a non-patrimonial, non-governmental, non-profit, apolitical, and independent organization with a cultural and educational character, aiming to ensure the Timisoara 2021 European Capital of Culture program.
