Runcu – Romania’s most popular rural destination

Runcu commune, located in Dâmbovița county, has turned in recent years into one of the most sought-after rural destinations in Romania. With its spectacular landscapes, clean air and well-preserved traditions, Runcu has become a magnet for tourists in search of peace, nature and authenticity.

Located in the foothills of the Leaota Mountains, the locality offers a rare combination of the natural beauty of the hilly area and the hospitality of the local people. In Runcu, visitors can discover traditional homesteads, welcoming guesthouses, hiking trails and cultural events that revive centuries-old customs.

Growing interest in rural tourism and agritourism has seen the number of guesthouses double in recent years. More and more families choose Runcu for a relaxing weekend in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. “The commune is well suited for agro-tourism. We have spectacular places and a community that wants to preserve traditions, but also to develop tourism”, said the mayor of the village, Vasile Stoica.

The local authorities are working on a development plan up to 2030, which includes upgrading infrastructure, extending tourist routes and promoting local products. At the same time, they are trying to maintain a balance between development and protecting the authenticity of the area.

With each season, Runcu attracts more and more Romanian and foreign visitors, becoming an example of success for rural tourism in Romania. Nature, tranquility and hospitality of the locals make this commune a true oasis of relaxation and a model of sustainable development for Romanian villages.
