Romanian Tourists Rate Greece, Turkey, and Hungary as Most Attractive Foreign Destinations

According to a study conducted by the Agency for Government Strategies between April and May, on a sample of 1,104 people over the age of 17 from 98 localities, including the sectors of Bucharest, it is shown that Romanian tourists consider Greece, Turkey, and Hungary to be the most attractive foreign destinations, while Bulgaria, which attracts more and more tourists from Romania, is rated as the least attractive country in Eastern Europe.

For Romanian tourists, Greece and Turkey are the most attractive foreign destinations, followed by Hungary, Slovenia, Poland, Croatia, and the Czech Republic.

Bulgaria is considered the least attractive among Eastern European countries, while Romania holds the second position in the regional ranking in terms of tourist attractiveness.

84% of respondents consider Romania a safe country for tourists, 68% appreciate that the services offered by domestic tourism are of high quality, and 79% believe that the rates charged are too high relative to the services provided.

The tourist attractions that Romanian tourists would like to visit are the monasteries in Moldova, health resorts, the Danube Delta, and Bran Castle, while the city of Bucharest shows the lowest level of tourist attractiveness, with 52% of those interviewed being little or not at all interested in visiting it.

45% of the people interviewed stated that they will not have a vacation or will not go anywhere on holiday, 29% said they will spend their rest time in the country, and 13% intend to go to a resort abroad.

According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics, in the first quarter of this year, the number of Romanian tourists traveling abroad, registered at border points, was 1.98 million people, an 18% increase compared to the number recorded in the same period last year.

The number of Romanian tourists who visited Bulgarian resorts doubled last year compared to 2005, reaching approximately 370,000 tourists.

The spokesperson for the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), Traian Badulescu, stated that Bulgaria cannot be considered an attractive country, but it is preferred by Romanian tourists due to low prices and the short distance from Romania.

Traian Badulescu estimates that in this summer season as well, Romanian tourists will prefer resorts in Bulgaria and Greece, countries that will attract 250,000-300,000 visitors each from Romania.
