This year, Romania has four beaches labeled with the Blue Flag, after only three beaches met the criteria regarding water quality, safety, and cleanliness required to obtain the certification last year.

Thus, Marina Regia, Phoenicia (both in Năvodari), Vega Vintage (Mamaia), and Citadel (Eforie) beaches meet the conditions established by the international “Blue Flag” program this summer season.

The first two beaches have held the certification since 2007 and, along with Vega Vintage Beach in Mamaia, were on the list of confirmed beaches in last year’s season as well.

“Blue Flag” is a certification awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to beaches and marinas that meet criteria related to water quality, public safety, education (information), and environmental management. At the same time, the Blue Flag is considered a symbol of environmental protection at the highest standard, with beaches and marinas holding this distinction being highly sought after by tourists. Globally, over 4,500 beaches received the certification this year.
